Could It Really Be The Food I Eat?

One thing you have to understand - we’re not talking about severe food allergies here. Those are called Type One toxic reactions (IgE), and they’re the kind of food allergies that will keep moms up at night, fearful of hidden gluten lurking in a restaurant menu or trace amounts of peanut dust left behind on a cafeteria table. The toxic reactions are swift and obvious. The foods that cause them are just as obvious and are easy to avoid (at least in theory).
Our focus is on food sensitivities or delayed food allergies. Known as Type Two toxic reactions (IgG), they tend to appear many hours or even days after the toxic food or foods are eaten. Sometimes it takes two or three meals to ingest enough of the food in question to provoke allergic symptoms. It’s the “delayed reaction” and the fact that typically more than one food is at issue, that make Type Two food allergies so difficult to self-diagnose. They are the root cause of Toxic Food Syndrome, or TFS for short.
Is It The Food, Or Is It Me?
That’s a great question. And here’s the short answer – the food isn't bad. You are. We’ll, to be more specific, it’s not you, but your body’s ability to deal with certain foods that’s bad. The problem lies in how your individual body processes food. As you might imagine, everyone is different. Medical evidence suggests that Toxic Food Syndrome (TFS) can result when certain foods and their protein components are not completely digested. When these poorly digested components are absorbed by your body, your immune system does not recognize them as nutritional or beneficial. In response, the immune system goes into fighting mode, producing antibodies and starting a series of reactions that can affect many tissues and organs. Which, in turn, can affect the way you feel and the way you live.
